One of the more novel features that wx/net offers is its broadcast function. Client users may design a broadcast schedule using text and image items gotten locally or from the wx/net server. Internally generated items such as current conditions are available as well. The items are then displayed in a 640 x 480 window that is suitable for closed-circuit television broadcasts. Of course each broadcast item may have its colors, fonts, and duration customized.
A ticker option is also available, which allows a selected text item to continuously scroll across the bottom of the screen while the main broadcast proceeds above it. A good use of this feature is to have current conditions continuously scroll while radar images and forecasts are presented in the main window. The broadcast feature allows for items not present at the time of schedule design to be specified. When these items become available (say, a special warning from the NWS) they are incorporated into the schedule, allowing the broadcast to change dynamically depending on the availability of data. Finally, the broadcast functionality is independent of the weather instrument and wx/net may be used solely for this purpose even if the user does not own a weather instrument.
